  • Clutch Boss inner hub

I had a guy help me with installing a new barnett clutch plates and spring conversion kit. Well, apparently he doesn't know what inch pounds are and during tightening of the spring conversion plate he broke bolts and ruined / cracked / destroyed my clutch boss inner hub.. 2006 Roadstar 1700.

When I go to revzilla it shows a full clutch boss assembly (see photo).. #16 part number 5PX-16370-10-00 for $177 dollars..

I only need the INNER HUB of that clutch boss assembly.

I've searched eBay and I can only find inner clutch boss assemblies for other Yamaha's but not mine.. those are like 30 bucks.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2016-Y....c100009.m1982

This guy really messed me up. I use the bike to ride to work every day and now I can't so its super inconvenient not to have a working bike..

PLEASE one of you will hopefully be able to save my bike.. Where can I get the inner clutch boss assembly for my bike? I dont want to spend 200 bucks for the kit when I just spend 300 for the Barnett stuff.

Thanks for helping if you can!!

    Pete

I'm guessing neither one of you had a manual before embarking on this mission lol.

We had specs but he found out quick that Newton meter is not the same as inch pound. Nobody is perfect.

I'd say it's his $177 to pay, not yours! He should have the decency to pay up.

He said he'd pay half. I'd love to just find the inner hub for ~30. Live and learn. Nobody is perfect. I'll call rock river tomorrow. Maybe they know where I can get just the inner hub.

Honestly... If he doesn't know NM from in-lbs he probably shouldn't be working on bikes. I'd bet he was using a 1/2 in torque wrench (if he was even using a torque wrench). When I work on friends bikes I am More careful than when working on mine... And even though I don't charge my friends if I broke something I'd pay for it and fix it... Quickly....

It's good to be friendly and offer to work on someone's bike... But not if you hamfist something After reading the specs.... Geez...

      Also....
8 NM is about 70 in lbs... Which is what you want to torque the spring bolts to (5.8 foot-pounds).... So if he thought the spec (per manual) was 5.8 NM instead of ft-lbs he would NOT have broken anything (would have been loose actually)

Also... You said $300 on Barnett Stuff.... Hope you didn't use their clutch disc's and steels.... Won't have good feel and may chatter... Always use OEM Yamaha clutch plates and steels. I had to use Barnett Kevlar on my vstar 650 with a sidecar... Stock clutch plates and disc's with Barnett spring (strongest springs I could get from Barnett) didn't work well with me passenger and someone in sidecar... So went with Barnett Kevlar. They bite hard but not a good feel.... Kind of like an on/off switch... Not a smooth clutch release.... It's like nothing then Full bite... Hard to take off smooth (takes practice on this bike).

check with "Pinwall Cycle" they are a motorcycle used parts dealer (Junk yard) I doubt that it will be $30 but it should be cheaper than new if they have it.

from Iowa. That sucks to have something like that happen. Good luck in your search for parts.

for anyone following my thread, I did buy from MRcycles. Found out today they sell stuff on their website that they dont have in stock. I bought that assembly from them and called 4 days later to see why it hasn't shipped. they told me they are still waiting to receive the part from yamaha.. if I had known that they are just a middle man and didnt have in stock I would have never bought from them.. the kicker is that they are charging me 36 dollars (25%) for a restocking fee for something that never left their stock.. soo frustrated.. good thing I found someone who has it in stock and for considerably less.. Thanks again to all suggestions.. I guess next time I need to confirm its in stock before buying anything even though it appears they have it ready to go.. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.. good or bad.. thank you..

Have your mechanic watch some you tube videos of doing the clutch on a Road Star... Several on there. Flow torque specs carefully.
