Weak lifter??? I can push down one lifter easily by hand , while Adjusting valves, rear cylinder intake ,Noisy bike(not everyday RS noise) ,

thats why im in there, does that mean i need to move to the next level, ?

Pull out rocker arms, and cover below, and examine the cams and the lifters? guess im gonna need some gaskets. this bike runs like a top tho, but gets noisy when it warms up.

Yea, maybe former owner ran cheap oil or ran long intervals on changes. A trike is gonna put a lot more stress on the motor all the time, short service intervals are imperative. Maybe even an oil cooler. Anything that can help it combat the strain of the excess load.

It could be just bleeding down when sitting. If it wasn't pumping up and holding while running it would run bad. I'm not one that uses oil additives but if I had a concern about a little bleed down I would run some sort of oil system cleaner additive for a few miles then change the oil. Maybe Seafoam maybe something from a reputable company that quiets lifters. maybe a Lucas product. Especially if the bike runs well. But that is just me

Just open things up and replace the lifters. Hopefully the cams are good. No sense in wasting all kinds of work and time trying using band aid repair.
A good lifter takes quite a bit of pressure to compress even without oil and next to impossible to compress with oil.
It sounds like that particular lifter you mention has a failed internal spring vs not bleeding down properly.

also, there was a car lifter that people used in the past. Maybe someone has the part number handy.

edit: found a saved link to an Odo (Parker) post. Lifter is Sealed Power HT2011. Less than $5 each at Advanced Auto Parts. Here is link to post

ok, got her open, i do not see any obvious damage to bottom of lifters or the cams, i off to advance for 4 of em, should i replace both on the cylinder im working on? or just the one?

They're cheap enough, do both. If one has failed, chances are higher the other can fail too. FYI When bleeding the new lifters, just make sure you get the air out, no need to pump them up until their rock hard. Also use some high ZDDP assembly lube on the new lifter face and cam lobes. It wouldn't hurt to get some high ZDDP break in additive and put a few a ounces in the oil too. Lucas makes both.

It’s not my $$$, but usually read people replacing all 4.

don’t forget to soak and pump up in oil before installation.

Rear cylinder exhaust [outer lifter] is the short one. Make sure you get that right, otherwise you'll bend your push rod and have all sorts of other problems.

Thought you had a 1700. [Your profile says 2005] If it's a 1600 not to worry then.

saweet, i already closed front cylinder after valve adjust. so i guess i back off on the lash adjusters so i can slide in the rocker arm inner shafts? i expected a lifter issue from the racket , im no stranger to the USUAL RS noises, this was unusual.

Okay I got the lifters I put them in kerosene I use the punch with a rubber tip on it there's no more air bubbles coming out of them but they're still 1/8 inch of up down so I'm going to follow the procedure in the manual now but how am I going to adjust the valves if I don't have a stiff lifter. ? I know I got to back off on the adjusters to get this thing assembled correct? I'm reading now

And the outer lifter, the lifter on the far right of the machine is the exhaust lifter correct? It'll be easy enough to tell when I turn it over by hand.

HELP AGAIN, its all sewn up tight, clymers manual is way better, although i found on mistake in their manual in a referral picture.

I HAVE ABOUT 1/8 IN OR LESS freeplay in the pushrod to rocker arm on both intake and exhaust of cyl with new lifters.

IM AFRAID TO START IT UP!!!!

I used the advance auto lifters as advised.

if all goes well, i replace front cylinder lifters???

If you didn’t adjust anything, I’d say the lifters are too short. Did you compare the new ones to the old ones?

Yes they are the ones recommended here, I'm just gonna fire it up. Same size , height . I spoke to bro diesel/ harley guy. Might just need to run it to get pumped up. All the way..
