  • Got a Fast Yamaha to go with my cruiser Yamahas

Got the 1998 Vmax I was after. Sounds like a 9000 rpm solid cam small block with open headers. Seriously. So much louder than my other bikes it unreal. Getting documentation/dyno charts from previous owner. Supposed to be 130's to the tire. Lots of mids/custom shit... Paint, seats, suspension, exhaust, jetting, and all performance work was done by UFO in Ohio. 17k miles and Very clean. Pretty much perfect honestly.

Gonna take getting used to mid controls and toe only shifter

Nice. Gotta love the VMax; the original hotrod muscle bike. So how is it? Any plans or just going to ride the snot out of it?

Already modded all to shit and stupid loud and scary fast. Stock vmax in perfect tune was 100-110 at the tire (145hp crank but shaft drive Eats power) ... This is 130+ (so figure 165 + crank hp) ..would take head work and cams to get any more power. I'm gonna ride it all weekend and report back. It's 3x as loud as my white bike with Sideburners

Man welcome to the vmax cult no I'm not a member, but that is a cult bike. The history of that bike was a result of import tariffs into the United States to try to make American motorcycles competitive with Japanese lower-priced imports, in other words to save Harley-Davidson. The laws stated that any motorcycle over 750 cc's would have an import tariff applied, I can remember if it was $500 or $1,000. Anyway the end result was that a Honda made a V4 engine 749 cc's that was a pocket rocket, and I think at the time they were racing v fours. . That was the impetus for the Honda interceptor, and then Yamaha followed suit if I remember correctly. But most of the manufacturers quit making them because of the expense, and difficulty in maintenance. The venture and the vmax were the survivors. I always tease all the VMAX owners if they have attachments for that vacuum cleaner. Those bikes are stupid fast, they Don't really require any more horsepower than they come from the factory, keep that nut behind the wheel torqued properly........

That is a work of art. I’d frame that and put it on my wall.

Congrats on the new bike! It is a beauty. You will have a different kind of smile racing that thing through the twistys.

Congrats on the new bike, looks really nice. I liked going fast when I was younger, I looked at buying one of those back in the 80's. Now I'd be afraid of killing myself on something that fast, kind of why I like cruisers, my reaction times are so much slower. The one thing I remember from early reviews on the Vmax, it was a street rocket, but handling wasn't that great, so be careful in the twisty's until you get a feel for it. Did the seller upgrade frame rigidity or suspension to address that?

Awesome find man, congratulations it looks like its in great shape. There isnt a motorcycle on the planet that sounds like a vmax, they pull like freight train.
Jon Cornell was the man when it came to the vmax, Unfortunately Jon is no longer with us and Ufo performance is no more. Here is an article you will be interested in. https://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/jo...-yamaha-v-max/

Mack’s brand silicone plugs from your local drug store cut out far more dBs that those.

The only ones they had at the local dollar general store... They helped quite a bit.

My 1300 is fast enough for me. I wonder if the handling on the V-Max is any better than that of the old Kawasaki H1 ,H2 and H3?Those things would go straight fast as , but woe to the rider that tried to handle curvy roads!

I always said that the hidden L.E.D. lights were for being able to see what they were working on when the vehicle broke down!
