So the champion uses a new swing arm. But uses the same monoshock, plus two additional shocks. But the swing arm doesn't twist, so does that mean the straight rear axle goes up and down as a single unit, unlike a straight rear axle car that has a drive shaft and leaf springs, one side of axle and tire will go up and the other will stay down. So when you hit a bump on trike, it's transferred to the whole axle and then to the bike. The belt drive doesn't twist.

I replaced it with a 19" Strat wheel I bought from guy in Dallas. I was lucky. My next door neighbor had a son in Dallas coming home for Xmas, and took it with him.

Just a tip to those with the champion kit. The front body attaching bolts are in the tunnel over the wheels. You need some one skinny to reach in and hold the bolt from rotating when you remove the nut. I tack welded a stamped steel bicycle wrench and a fender washer to the bolt head. It was just long enough so it wouldn't rotate in the narrow space and thin enough to not interfere with storing the bag with our rain ware in the tunnel.

Only if you have a 80" wing span. One arm and shoulder in the tunnel and the other under the bike to loosen it.

ok, its stiff suspension, the shocks are adjustable, but there in tight quarters, and do i still loosen/use the OEM monoshock?

I think a 140 and maybe even a 150 will fit the front. Correct?

        • #27
No I think if you get too big a tire to make it harder to turn. I just ordered a commander 3 rear tire for the front 130 90 16

Okay so I drained the oil and the transfer oil and it wound up being close to six quarts. With a terrible smell of gasoline. The oil felt like it had good viscosity though. I let it rain for a few hours. I put in some mobile one V-Twin 2050. This one seems to have a little valve tick. She run strong though. I'm just going to leave it I ain't messing with no valves. I got to give a time for the possibly diluted oil to get out of the lifters. I also had a break whirr. It was missing a caliper bolt and was compressing a few degrees off vertical. And the pads were worn that way. And the ground a slight hole in the caliper and the SS caliper spring. Not very deep less than an eighth more than a sixteenth. I took both sides before I cleaned them up good and then I ground the pads down on fine concrete sidewalk. Now she's good. Brake fluid next.

Supposed to be 4 qts oil and 400 cc of gear oil in primary chain also known as the transfer gear oil level compartment.. so it should be around 44 or 4500 cc's. Drained into same pan but it came up to almost six quarts when I put it into a storage container. So either he added too much oil, or the carb flooded into the crankcase or both. The oil did smell the fuel, but the road Star oils always smell likefuel

She also V and H headers that get hot, and mufflers that are too loud oe need repacking. so im gonna install OEM headers, I NEED A PAIR OF MUFFLERS that will bolt up to the road star headers, i know ill need an elbow extensions and stuff. i plan on going to muffler shop with muffler hanging and headers mounted and ask them to make it work. WHAT MUFFLERS TO I GET,? theres a shipload of HD OEM mufflers out there. DOCV you were the expert on slip ons a while back?

thank you guys for all the info and files..!!!!!!!!!!. the oem mufflers are offset in length, after careful examination of the champion install instrux, i see champion made a replica "exhaust tip" that slides over OEM muffler to match mufflers to appear to be the same final length , and reach past rear of trike. i have at least 2 OEM 1700 mufflers, so i am going to hack the tail section off one, and gut it, so it can slide over and clamp on. it will be a blank tip. the hack will be under the trike, so no big deal. It would be easier to find a free a Landon bar than to find a good used set of roadhouse duals. lol
