Repainting gas tank

Yes that's the two part stuff I can get from my Auto body store so it's good stuff. I noticed there was like a bogus one that didn't involve the mixing and shaking it of the second product in the 24-hour shelf life as you described, it's like 22 dollars for a one rattle can but it's well worth it if it's a good product. I bought a V-Star that was literally a barn find and the tank had rust spider webs all along the bottom where the old gas and water sat. So I got a perfectly clean V Star gas tank off eBay for 210 delivered, the only problem it had like. 7 spots where either acid got on it or a tiny little chips. It's about the size of a red pepper flake. And there was just light rust cuz it came from a very dry state so I ospho ed it. Primed it with artist brushAnd then I mixed up some paint to kind of match, cuz it really don't matter to me if it looks perfect or not. So now I got to cover that so it's fuel fast. It's just amazing how clean the inside of the fuel tank is when, when they come from States like Colorado or Montana or Arizona. You guys just have no idea what Florida can do to a motorcycle inside and out. I drain the tank on each bike, each year and dry it out. And change the brake fluid every one or two years, because that is a hydrophilic.

The 2x paint like RustOleum is just more paint solids.
The paint I am using is a two part epoxy and it comes in a special spray can. After shaking the can you remove a red plastic button and place it on the stem on the bottom of the can. Then you turn the can upside down and push the can down until the bottom is bottomed out. Then shake the can to mix the two part epoxy. You are ready to paint.
The epoxy left over in the spray can will harden by the next day. You MUST wear a mask!!!

If you keep practicing, you'll get really good at that paint thing.

I have done thanks before with rattle cans come followed up by clear lacquer with a gun. Makes it fuel proof. Can we still buy clear lacquer

My tank is the Paucho #810 tank gas valve on left side.
It would not fit the Roadstar frame. I have a custom frame.
Tank is only 3 gallons.

Repainting gas tank
I am using A new two part black epoxy paint from East....,I am happy consumers can get this two part paint in those special spray cans.
I followed the directions about temperature and kept the gas tank and paint in the same room over night.
The paint went on without problems.
I hope it stays that way too. I will report back with a photo or two.
I am now ready to put on a coat of clear so that when running your hand over the surface you cannot feel a bump between the white and the black.Last edited by Lucky; 10-18-2020, 06:47 PM. Reason: The photos are only 9KB ,saved in Photoshop for the WEB feature.Tags: None
