Handling of road Stars equipped with Batwing and tour pack

My brother is considering mounting a Batwing fairing and a tour pack with Adams rack kind of set up on the back of the bike. He weighs 220 and his girlfriend weighs 140. I told him I'm not sure how that will handle at speed with the aerodynamics and the weight distribution, any you guys have any input or suggestions.

Mine is setup just like that, I have no problems with handling. I'm also 220 but don't ride to up very often. The only time I had any handling problems was with lowers below the fairing.

No problems here. but if he's running stock suspension and tires, things may be a bit spongey.

Yes he's running stock suspension, Michelin Commander 2s. I do have three road rings in them and boxes that I got years ago and we haven't installed them yet. When you say spongy, you just mean soft. But no handling issues at speed or wobble?

Any weight added to any motorcycle is detrimental.

The stock suspension was too soft to begin with. Under sprung and under dampened. Added to that, the suspension is probably tired now, so it's even worse. When you add more weight, the problem worsens, and the faster you go, the more obvious it becomes. My first R* used to "pogo" above 60 mph. Hit a bump and it's hold on for dear life. The Roadwing, and at the very least, Progressive fork springs with 7-10wt fork oil is a *must* if you're doing a lot of two up. [Hell, it's a must for *any* R*.] The batwing and tourpack only add about 30-50lbs loaded, their aerodynamic effect is a bigger deal than the weight. But even that's minimal. MCIIs are good, just have him deal with the suspension and he'll thank you.

Road Star payload is maxed out at about 400lbs. I had a Progressive 465 under the back of mine. I agree with FP.

I have tourpack Adam's RACK HD bags and full windshield... Now adding batwing with radio. Have Road wing shock and 10w front fork oil.

I have batwing with radio, 4 5.25 speakers, adams rack, and full size harley style tour pack and i wouldnt go back to stock for anything. I weigh 330 and the only issue i have is the back tire doesnt last very long at all. handling is just fine until you pass or get passed by semi at 70 plus mph and it kinda wobbles the steering a little. It not scary, just annoying. Next tire will be harder rubber and or higher weight rating, but i am not complaining, i love the look and storage space i have.

That's why I just went double darkside.... Wore out a brand new shi ko 777hd in 6k miles. My bike handles great and goes 115 straight as an arrow and solid as a rock. I think the run flat MC tire on rear and rear 130 width tire reversed up front and fresh Road Wing and 10w synthetic fork oil and every single bearing on the bike replaced hels with stability and comfort.
