So, with the Barons needle, does the spacer and washer go on from the pointy end or the blunt end? I guess that would be under the E clip or over the E clip?

So, what was in this carb was. small diameter main with 165 on it. pilot was mukini 35. Had a multi groove needle with clip in 3rd groove down from the blunt end with a silver washer, spacer and silver washer on top of the clip (put on from the blunt end.
I will replace with a 167.5 main, 37.5 pilot, barons needle with clip in 4th groove with spacer and silver washer put on from blunt end?

O.K. spacer and washer below the clip, I imagine that is on from the pointy end.

For 1600/1700 with pipes and aircleaner...
Needle 4th groove from short end with washers and spacer in stock position (1 silver washer and plastic spacer under the clip)
        167.5 main. (172.5 main 1700)
        37.5 pilot. (40 pilot 1700)
Start PMS at 2.5 turns out and dial it in when hot and idle is set to 850-900

After turning the PMS screw out and the bike warmed up idling, use a tachometer, or listening very closely while turning the PMS screw in or out to find the highest idle. After you find the highest idle, turn the PMS screw out 1/8 to 1/4 turns. Your done.
If you have to turn the PMS screw out more than 3 1/2 turns, then change the pilot jet to richer pilot.

I run my needle as discribed , however I run 170 main and 37.5 pilot jets in both my 1600's . Both with BAK filters . "01 has BUB JUGHUGGER exhaust , '02 has Cobra Longs. Average 37-43 mpg in town , 47-53 mpg Hiway .

Cool, that's where I'm at. Won't probably be able to test it until next week after work. Thank you

If the fall weather where you are at has cooled down to lower temps you may have to readjust the PMS next year for the hot summer weather. That should be the only issue with tuning this time of year.

Out of curiosity, would summer weather be out on the PMS or in on the PMS? I assume that out is richer and in is leaner.

Hey, here's a question. When I opened the carb up it was obvious that someone had been in there before. It had an adjustable needle with the clip on the 3rd groove and a spacer with 2 washers above the clip. One of the bowl screw heads was stripped and the PMS was already opened up and set at 3 1/4 turns out. I compared the 2 needles and if there is any difference it would be that the needle that was in there had a flat tip on the pointy end. So the questions are, do the spacers/washers do anything above the clip and can you tell what jet kit that needle may have been from?

The washer above the clip does nothing, it is just a convenient place to store them so you don't lose them.

Oh, and started bike, sounds a lot better, didn't get to ride it yet but can already hear the difference.

When i rebuilt my carb the difference was like night and day...a major increase of performance using the Barons needle.
