  • Speedo lightbulb

So most of my speedo lightbulbs are out. I opened up gauge and didn't see any bulbs. Where are they and what kind are they?

P.S. Running to the store to get some burritos.

I used Honda car clock bulb 35505-s84-n01. You have to take the speedo cluster off of the under side of the dash to get to them. Not hard at all.

    edit: mine is a 2003

Hmmm, I did open up the speedo cluster to the inside and didn't see anything that looked like a bulb? I might be blind. Got a picture?

Some put led strip around the circumference under the glass and forgo the bulbs, no hot spots from the bulbs.

This diagram shows a wire going to each light. I think Mike's bike has the lights clipped onto the circuit board.

Mike, the lights are very small. On the back of the circuit board, you should see 4 brown twist lock style bulb holders. Turning them 1/4 turn counterclockwise unlocks them then you pull them up.

I've seen the twist locks black as well.

Ah, I didn't pull the circuit board up, was afraid to damage it. I thought they couldn't possibly be under there.

Mike, you do know that you can also adjust the brightness of the dash lights, right? Are you sure they are burned out or just dimmed?

I did not know that, how do you do that.

On my 08, it’s done using the Select and Reset buttons on the right handlebar. DK if older models have it. Check your users manual.

Hmmm, we don't have select and reset buttons on the right handlebar so it's probably only on newer models.

Shores, I had mentioned that one time as well. But I believe that is only on the latter models (FI?) that use LEDs instead of traditional lamp bulbs.

I did not know that you could dim them, I will check, how do you do that? But I'm pretty sure they're out as there is one bright spot.

So I took that whole assembly apart and got it figured out and it looks like I need the dorman bulb. Didn't realize they came out from the back side. Got it figured now.

You'd have to look in a manual but I'm not sure you can on the older ones. The newer bikes with the select buttons on the right bar controls you can.

I put the led strip in mine. No more hotspots and a lot brighter.

the original bulbs are in little plastic holders that twist into the back of the circuit board. 1600’s are T3’s, 1700’s are T4’s I believe if you’re doing just bulbs. The pictures I’ve seen though of led bulb replacements create massive hot spots. Looks bad I think. The strip light is even lighting all around.

It’s not bad for me. The visor helps a ton. But it makes it so easy at a quick glance to look and see clearly.

It’s an Alpena brand light strip. Same ones that autozone or Walmart has.
