  • Enricher question

Almost out of the blue my enricher is super hard to pull out. Cable goes bad? Id there a test or maintenance regarding it? Thanks!

The portion of the nut retaining the cable in the fitting under the fuel pump housing is normally how you increase tension to prevent the knob from pulling in to early. You may have to lube the exposed shaft (when you pull the enrichener out) with WD40. If this doesn't work, and you don't want to pull the carb off the bike, disconnect the enrichener from the aforementioned bracket, raise it as high as you can, and then, spray it with WD40 so that the fluid runs down the exposed shaft. While still wet, move the knob in-and-out a few times to work the lubricant into the enrichener cable housing. If this doesn't work, you may have to remove the carb from the motor so that you canelevate the whole enrichener cable to repeat this process. If you had removed the carb from the bike prior to these problems, check the routing of the cable.. I recently replaced my cable assembly due to the rubber shielding on the cable being peeled back, and I feared it might be sticking.

Lube the cable real good with PJ 1 cable lube or PB Blaster.... Also there is a tiny ball and spring so that could use a good cleaning andube also (careful when you back it out the spring can go flying and you will have a super fun time finding it.... Might as well be invisible lol

I replaced my enricher with a Maxxair Polished aluminum one. It was only 15 dollars more than stock when I bought it. Metal instead of plastic and replaceable parts. Been riding on it for about 2 years, no regrets.

Okay I think we're talking about the choke and cable , referring to the enricher. It's not truly a choke because it doesn't starve it for air, it just adds extra fuel via another circuit . I think you're referring to the coasting enricher cover?

Either way, the cable still needs to be lubed. However, when I removed the assembly for inspection awhille ago, I found some crud that looked like it might be the result of moisture in the area where the assembly screwed into the carb. One of the reasons I replaced it was to have a fresh, clean cable assembly for smooth operation...it may have been unnecessary, but I was grasping at straws.

Thanks to each of you for the insight and suggestions. Next rainy day project will be the cable lube. As always, the support from this forum is truly appreciated!
