  • Brake light switch

When I depress the rear brake pedal the brake light comes on when it should but if I depress the pedal further pulling more on the switch the brake light goes out. Does it just need adjusting? I wouldn't want it coming on later. Is it faulty? Front brake switch is working fine.

I was wrong the front isn't working correctly. Could it be the LED replacement taillight ( panel that plugs into the bulb socket )? Front and back both come on for only the very least touch of the lever or pedal but if I pull the front or push the rear lever at all the brake light goes out.

You are gonna have to meter it out to see if you have power and ground at the bulb socket. if you do then it's the bulb. if you don't meter it back to see where power stops.also meter out the switches

I got my test light out but I but I put a regular 1157 bulb in and the front lever works the light fine { but not on the LED panel though it's worked for years ) but the back lever is the same. If I push it the light goes out again. That tells me there is power to the socket but the rear switch stops supplying power after pulling it further. So what am I doing next with the rear switch? HOW am I metering it out? This is probably simple but it'd beyond me. .

To me the rear brake light switch should stay on once it's pulled even if it's pulled further. That seems to be the whole problem here. I thought maybe the switch might be bad.

check to see what wire comes out of the switch with power to the brake light. If it has power coming out when lightly pressing the pedal and the power goes away when you press hard on the pedal there is something wrong with the switch. I'm not quite sure what can go wrong with a plunger switch like that it should either work or not work but I guess something can go wrong with anything.lol also did you check the connector under the seat that goes into the rear fender.?

I’ve had that happen before. Adjust the switch so it is looser and doesn’t pull so hard. If that doesn’t work, remove the switch and spray it with electronic component cleaner, cycling it a lot. Are you developing tinkeritis?

It seems so doesn't it? I guess I have neglected by bike for too many years. Barely riding it and just changing oil and putting gas in is about all I have done for 15 years. My wife keeps telling me to sell it but it's just too cool. When it wouldn't run this spring was when I got the wake up call. I have this spring put on a new manifold that I ported, rebuilt the carb a half dozen times, cleaned and recharged the K&N air filter, new starter and new battery. Rear brake pads and wanting to figure out my front brake issues still. I am trying to clean every piece of chrome to a high polish. I noticed I need a new rear tire and I should probably replace the OE front tire too. I know I ask a lot of questions...I was very distraught when I had issues and the site was down. .

Just some deferred maintenance. They are great bikes. I just had to do the front switch on both bikes. People behind me said I had no brakes lights. Took the switch off the handlebars, one screw, and cycled it while spraying cleaner in it and good to go.

I adjusted it a long way same symptoms. I took it off and worked it over pretty good with electronic cleaner. I couldn’t get it to come on at all so I figured it was junk. I put it back on pretty close to the old adjustment......works perfect. I don’t think I would have gotten that from a manual.

Those switches are pretty bullet proof if you can just get into them to clean them
