  • JIS?

Do I need JIS screwdriver to open the pretty stuck front master cylinder screws? Is there a good quality one or set to purchase?

I had something like that back when I was about 22 years old working on a wrecked Honda 450 I bought for $50.00. I'm not sure if it was JIS but it worked!

do you have a factory tool kit on the bike? If so there is 1 in there. You shouldn't really need it for the master cylinder but the is one there.

    You did good, Grasshopper.

I’ve never used Phillips screwdrivers on Japanese bikes since my first Honda back in the ‘60’s when I cammed all the screws out on a carb. A mechanic turned me on to JIS screwdrivers.

The impact style that shocks the (corroded) threads on aluminum screws and loosen without much effort.

That's not what I found. In that brand I found in that brand was an actual impact driver with replaceable bits. I can't find the ones you pictured.

I found them separately but I don't know what size I need.

I have the number 2 and 3. 3 mainly use on my classic bike. I also have this one. I couldnt find a #1 so just bought this. Not too often you would need a #1 impact anyways. They are great screwdrivers. Was recommended on the XS 650 forum.

i got a question for daveJ ,and you guys that do or did mechanics for a living. i have owned and impact set for decades, and i use it for stuck or questionable screws. Are the 12v impact guns by ryobi, etc, suitable for the same task?

I would say not for high torque or stuck on bolts. We have 18v impacts at work used to bolt on fittings on pipe and have used once in a while. I am contemplating buying a corded impact that does 200-250ft/lbs. They go on sale periodically for $50 so if it sits in my garage for a while no big expense.

I use a 110v 1/2 drive impact for big stuff. I don't use any of my air tools anymore. I also use a 20v dewalt impact driver and a 1/4 drive Milwaukee cordless ratchet.
