  • Adding a Baron custom BAK ?

Okay so my 1600 is running V&H Long shots and has a stock air filter. I ordered me a BAK and it should be here in the next couple of days. What else should I do when I install this?

i know the carb has been jetted but I’m not sure how. The previous owner said he jetted it when he put on the pipes. I’ve never been into the carb before and to be honest a little nervous to do it. The last carb I messed with I F’d up pretty good(mind you it was a Holley 650) and had to have someone fix it. Plus getting close to NW Starfest and I’d be pissed if I missed because I screwed up my carb.

Leave the bike as is for the trip but take the parts with you is what I would do, I'm sure help will be available when you get there for a steak dinner.

I will have my spare stock carb with me at Starfest that is setup for pipes and BAK too.

Please don’t mess with it until after Starfest.

Will I be able to Put the BAK On and not mess with the carb since it’s already jetted? I was hoping to help my fuel mileage for Starfest since I’m currently getting around 28 mpgs.

I can show you what you need to change since I have a stock carb to point at the jets. It would be good to know what is in there anyway.

As what Mort, Jaybo, and Shores said, don't mess with the carb until after Starfest. With Jaybo having a carb there, we could have class. Lol.
Try the BAK out to make sure your bike is running ok. It might help your gas mileage, if the jet is right.

So IF I need to rejet the carb (after Starfest of course) should I also port the intake? Does it make that much of a difference? I’ve Watched a video of it on YouTube and it seems pretty easy just smoothing out the intake. Hopefully I have no cracks in the intake which seems to be an issue for some I’ve read on here. If it is cracked, Is there a difference from a ported intake for sale online than buying a stock One and doing it yourself?

If you have to buy one, buy the stock one and do it your self. It's not hard. We can talk at Starfest.

If you have a dremel it would be pretty straightforward. I bought mine from a former member of the old site that used to sell them but I got one of the very last ones. Not sure where he is today, but pretty sure age and health issues forced his retirement from riding. I would suggest the attachment is the size of a big magic marker to get in htere better. I think I have 2 and could let you borrow one. They do make a difference, lots snappier everywhere since there is not as much turbulance like there is with the stocker. Seems like I saw an article somewhere about how to do it. Maybe on Tykes site?

A corse grit, 1.5" diameter, long shaft, Flapper Wheel works GREAT, and gets the job done quickly.

Thanks Jaybo and Duke. It would be good to see one done so when I do it I can use it as reference.

That was Curt in Texas. He had severe health issues and quit riding and ended up selling all his bike stuff. He was an awesome me hands and great guy. Well he still is but just not on the clinic sight anymore. He made great lower deflectors and was a wizard with the R* stuff.

Properly done your doing more than smoothing lol. This one was done by Curt Switzer on the old RSC.

The online ported ones are not done to this standard, save yourself some money and buy a new stock manifold and port it yourself, you can't do a worse job than Barons.

Barons should be embarrassed to call theirs a "Ported" manifold. They round out just a tiny bit on the corners and leave all the rubber in the head runners. WTF is that???? It's not really a ported manifold.

Yeah I was looking at the one from Pacific coast and it’s like $145 compared to half that for stock so I wasn’t sure if the extra money was worth it.

Okay well after a shipping delay I got my BAK today and after work installed it. Took it out for a short ride about 10 miles and it seems to be running good. It feels like it pulls a little harder through the gears and a little more responsive. Hopefully I’ll add some mpgs also but so far everything seems good.

should have checked your jetting before installing it. You could be running extremely lean and not know it.

A quick look at the spark plug(s) that are easy to get to would tell you if it's too lean.
