Bike burst into flames.Starter works great though. Carb was leaking crazy fuel, I saved the garage (and the wife's HD) I've been blown up before, but during a bike start? Good thing I keep fire extinguishers in handy places. Back to bikes - there's a ton of fuel pumping out of the carb. Recommendations for a rebuild kit? Having a beer, done for today.

Float valve stuck open? Does the bike still have the oem fuel pump on it?

May I ask why you ask about the OE fuel pump?

Wow glad you're ok! I rebuilt my carb and BEFORE I started it I noticed it was leaking.....
Enough is enough! With enough beer you can do anything...

We're okay, Just working on my temper now. I don't know for sure what's original and what isn't. The previous owner definitely did some playing.

glad you're ok and kudos to you for having a fire extinguisher handy! A lesson to all of us to have one handy.

Looking for a rebuild kit, I'm pretty sure it's the float valve. Guess I'll find out after I get some gaskets and a refreshed fire extinguisher.

I had to laugh... about thirty years ago, I was replacing the old carb on my 69 Firebird 400 with a Holley 4 barrel double pumper. The way you adjusted the float bowl was to have the car running, and screw out an adjusting screw on top of the carb until gas started weeping out a small port on the side of the carb. The carb on that motor was literally right in front of the distributor. I turned on the car, went to adjust the adjusting screw and barely touched the screw with the screwdriver when gas started spraying everywhere out of the screw under high pressure... You can guess what happened.

I took the very singed carburetor back to the auto store to demand a replacement, so they gave me a new carb... and as I was on my way out the door, they stopped me, and said "here, we think you might want to have this too..." and handed me a fire extinguisher. :-)
