I'm not sure what type of material you can make them with on a printer but if you do make a few there is a slight mod that you can do for them to fit better on a bike with Dchopper bag mounts. The thickness of the metal that the mounts are made of make it difficult to insert the Landon bar into the backrest receiver because the receiver is now wider with the bag mounts installed. To fix that problem you need to shave down the thickness of the landon bar on the inside portion of the receiver block by the thickness of the Dchopper brackets. or make the landon wider by the thickness of the bag bracket thickness but then they wouldn't fit a bike without Dchopper mounts. To me shaving it down to fit both would be the easier fix.

Jaybo we use both units. It all depends on if a client has certain requirements. I dont mind using either or for producing fire protection installation drawings. JC

roadiemort, Sometime if you could can you give me the measurement from the ruler in the pic to the top center of the bar. I believe you have the original Landon bar. I have made a few from stainless but am curious to see if the contour of the bar is the same as the original. Thanks in advance. littlebull

here is my rendering of my version of the grab bar. its to scale of the landon bar in terms of mounting as well as its just as tall as the landon bar. the only liberty i took is how the arch mounts to the mounting tabs. this is only day 3 of me teaching myself how to do cad so be gentle but honest. what do you guys think? any conserns on the design or things you guys dont like? i can try to tweak it.

That's pretty cool! They are a pretty simple looking item. Not sure what it would take to roll the tube to fabricate one/many.....or the cost to chrome plate. But seems something interesting to think about.

Looks good Jason! Would be interesting to see what a machine shop could do one out of billet cost wise.

its going good. its slow but its cool to see it printing. sadly the grab bar is 3mm to big to fit on my printer bed at a 45 degree angle for max length

but i think i might try to push it. the bed is technically big enough. but by default it wont let me print at 100% capacity to give room for errors in homing and such. i have a few more things i want to print first and im waiting on a few things to show up like a glass bed and then im going to see if i can make something happen. i would try it with regular pla fillament. if it prints well i will try it with a carbon fiber impregnated nylon. its super strong and uv stable.

lol. yeah its neat to watch it do its thing. i can play with the setting to make it print better or faster and different layer heights and such. i decided to get one to learn the ropes because metal printers are seeing more and more improvements and it might be a easy jump from one to the other. but the trade off is its still weaker than cast metals and likely will never be as strong as cast let alone forged or billet metal. but it sure would be a lot better than plastic!

ID:	104095 well, i know its a long delay but i got the grab bar printing right now. as i expected its a very tight fit with no room for error. i need to tweak it a little more but other than one corner getting the last mm messed up its printing. im going to let it go to see if there is anything else im going to have to do to make it print right. im a little worried that the ends will brake free of the bed before they reach the supports in the center but lets see how it goes.

We were talking about you this weekend, I'm assuming this could also be built out of billet on a CNC machine?
